‘Samsara’

Curzon has acquired UK and Ireland rights to Lois Patiño’s Samsara from Spain’s Bendita Film Sales.

The drama premiered in Berlin’s Encounters strand this year where it won the special jury prize (ex aequo with Orlando, My Political Biography).

Curzon will release the title theatrically and on its streaming service Curzon Home Cinema.

Samsara is the story of a Buddhist monk who helps an elderly woman transition from death to her next life as a reincarnated goat.

It is produced by Señor y Señora.

Patiño is an experimental filmmaker from Spain whose previous films include Red Moon Tide (a Berlinale Forum 2020 title) and documentary Coast Of Death which screened at Locarno, Seville and Jeonju in 2014.

Eleonora Pesci, Curzon Film’s acquisitions manager said: “Samsara is a unique experience which proves there are still new, fresh and exciting things to be done with the medium of cinema. With a deeply empathetic take on ideas about death, reincarnation, and religion, and a stunning visual style, Lois Patiño has created something magical.”
