EXCLUSIVE: German sales outfit Epsilon Film has added new Arabian Nights-style animated yarn Hui Boo And The Curse Of The Genies to its Cannes slate.
It is the latest animated family adventure from Hanover-based Mack Animation and follows on from Hui Boo And The Witch’s Castle (2022), itself a sequel to Hui Boo: The Castle Ghost (2006). Sebastian Niemann returns as writer/director on the project, working alongside co-writer Dirk Ahner and production designer Uwe Stanik.
In the film, Hui Boo, the well-intentioned but inept castle ghost, is chosen by a blundering young genie to break a thousand-year curse. His task is to free Princess Rashara and her court from the punishment of a desert demon that has left them to roam the sands as restless genies.
Mack Animation is working on the project in collaboration with producer Christian Becker’s Rat Pack FilmProduktion, and in co-production with German powerhouse Constantin Film, which will handle the German release.
Epsilon is launching sales in Cannes and has a first-look trailer for the project.
The new Hui Boo movie takes its place alongside other animated features on the Epsilon slate including Dreamers - The Hunt For Shadowclaw, The Amazing Maurice 2, Brave Heart Yakari and Skip.
Epsilon, the joint venture between former Global Screen execs Julia Weber and Alice von Einem and the Beta Group, will also be introducing buyers to the live-action drama I Spy With My Little Eye at this year’s Cannes market.
