Digital cinema industry veteran Sriram Sistla hired as director of sales.

Cinema screen manufacturer Harkness Screens has expanded its operations into India.

The company has opened local distribution facilities in Bangalore with plans to open a full manufacturing plant by mid-2013.

Harkness has hired Sriram Sistla as director of sales for India; he is a veteran of the digital cinema industry having previously worked for Cinerama, MRH Digital Systems and Harman International.

“Sriram joins us with a wealth of knowledge and understanding not just of the cinema industry but of the local market. His strong links with customers in the territory means that we are already able to forge stronger relationships with our customers by understanding their requirements. The investment we are making to increase our presence in India is a reinforcement of Harkness Screens’ commitment to providing our customers and the cinema industry throughout the entire world with the very best projection surfaces,” said Andrew Robinson [pictured], Managing Director of Harkness Screens.

Harkness also has offices in Ireland (headquarters), the US, UK, France and China.

Also during CinemaCon, Harkness has launched its new Spectral 300 ultra high brightness silver screen, with a gain of 25% compared to the company’s Spectral 240.

Harkness has also announced that Dallas-based exhibitor Rave Cinemas has adopted its new Digital Screen Checker, a hand held digital cinema luminance meter to measure screen brightness.
