EXCLUSIVE: Producer Kim Magnusson has been appointed to lead the new Eastern Denmark Film Fund, which officially launches today.

The fund has municipal funding of 12.8m DKK ($2m) from the municipalities of Copenhagen, Vordingborg, and Guldborgsund; and Danish Film Institute backing of 27.7m DKK ($4.3m), for a total of 40.5m DKK ($6.3m).

The funding will be used to support national and international productions that use Eastern Denmark as a filming and production location.

Magnusson will lead the initial phase of the fund. The producer has been Oscar-nominated seven times for short films, winning for Election Night in 1999 and Helium in 2013; and he was previously chairman of the Danish Film Academy for 20 years.

The fund’s first application round for film and TV support will open before this year’s summer holidays; while the final organisational structure of the fund will be in place by autumn this year.

The Eastern Denmark fund region includes the capital city Copenhagen, and completes a trio of regional funds in the Scandinavian country, alongside FilmFyn and the West Danish Fund.

As previously reported, Denmark is also launching a new 25% production rebate scheme in 2026 to increase its attractiveness to international productions; projects will be able to work with both the Eastern Denmark Film Fund and the rebate scheme.

“With the Eastern Denmark Film Fund, we are now receiving a strong and much-needed injection of funds to develop and attract both Danish and especially international film and TV productions to Eastern Denmark,” said Magnusson.

The fund is established under Copenhagen Capacity, the business development scheme aiming to attract international companies to East Denmark and talent to Danish industry.

“The establishment of the Eastern Denmark Film Fund is an important step in making Eastern Denmark more visible and competitive as a production destination,” said Asbjorn Overgaard, CEO of Copenhagen Capacity. “With the support from the Danish Film Institute, we gain a strong foundation for attracting more film and TV productions, creating local jobs, and strengthening the creative sector in the region. With Kim Magnusson on board, I am confident that the fund will achieve significant international reach.”
