Lionsgate will release Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair theatrically nationwide on December 5, giving audiences the chance to see Quentin Tarantino’s original two-part revenge epic as a single commercial release for the first time.
The full version will screen in 70mm and 35mm formats and removes the cliffhanger ending from Kill Bill Vol. 1 and the recap that began Kill Bill Vol. 2. Connecting the two halves is a previously unseen, seven-and-a-half-minute animated sequence. Lionsgate anticipates the film will play in all major markets.
Tarantino, who presented The Whole Bloody Affair out of competition in Cannes in 2006, said: “I wrote and directed it as one movie – and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie. The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theatre in Glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”
Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair stars Uma Thurman as The Bride, who exacts revenge on her former boss and lover and his gang, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, after he betrays her and leaves her for dead.
Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, and David Carradine round out the cast. Tarantino wrote and directed based on the character of “The Bride” created by Q&U, and Lawrence Bender served as producer.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 opened in 2003 and 2004, grossing $180m and $152m worldwide, respectively. Lionsgate manages library distribution rights for one of Hollywood’s largest portfolios of Tarantino films, which includes Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Death Proof.
