Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All At Once

Matt Damon is in talks to star in Universal’s upcoming event film from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Damon would step into the role set to have been played by Ryan Gosling before Gosling’s recent departure from the project because of scheduling issues.

Universal had no comment.

The film – the first feature from the Daniels, as Kwan and Scheinert are known, since 2022 multiple Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All At Once is still expected to shoot this summer in Los Angeles. Last year, the project was conditionally approved for a $38.4m California tax credit on its projected qualified expenditure in the state of $107.3m. It is set to open on November 19, 2027.

Little is known about the plot of the Daniels’ follow-up. The film-making team will produce with Jonathan Wang through their Playgrounds overall deal with Universal.

Damon stars in Universal’s Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey, set for global release in mid-July. He also appeared in the studio’s previous Nolan film, Oppenheimer, and played the title character in the studio’s five Jason Bourne franchise entries.

The Daniels won seven Oscars including best picture, director, screenwriter, and lead actress for A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once, which starred Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu.

The talks with Damon were first reported by Deadline.
