‘My Neighbor Adolf’

Estonia’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (November 11-27) has unveiled the full line-up of its 2022 edition and revealed it will open with Leon Prudovsky’s My Neighbor Adolf.

My Neighbor Adolf will also launch this year’s 15-film country focus on Israel. The English-language drama, which premiered at Locarno, is set in 1960s Colombia where a Holocaust survivor becomes convinced his new neighbour, played by Udo Kier, is Adolf Hitler. German actor Kier was today announced as the recipient of Tallinn’s lifetime achievement award, the first of three the festival will reveal in the coming weeks.

Tallinn has previously announced the titles that will compete in Official Selection, First Feature, new section Critics’ Picks, Rebels With a Cause and Baltic Film competitions.

The Official Selection jury includes Ildikó Enyedi (Hungary), Hayedeh Safiyari (Iran), Adam Balazs (Hungary), Andreas Kleinert (Germany) and Bijaya Jena (India), and the jury of the First Feature competition comprises Sebastian Meise (Austria), Therese Malvar (Philippines), Georg Georgi (Germany), Michael Idov (US) and Pippa Cross (UK).

Films screening in the new strand Best of Fest, will include Alejandro Loayza Gris’ Sundance winner Utama, Carla Simón’s Berlinale Golden Bear winner Alcarras, Laura Poitras’ Venice Goldn Lion winner All The Beauty And The Bloodshed, and Lukas Dhont’s Cannes Grand Prix winner Close.

The Screen International Critics’ Choice selection includes James Gray’s Armageddon Time, Park Chan-wook’s Decision To Leave, Sam Mendes’ Empire Of Light, Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream, Maria Schrader’s She Said, Marrin McDonagh’s The Banshees Of Inisherin, Mark Mylod’s The Menu, Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale and Sarah Polley’s Women Talking.

The 26th edition of the festival will comprise 232 features and 230 shorts from 75 countries, across five competition strands and 13 special programmes.

Between the festival and Industry@Tallinn and Baltic Event, more than 1,000 guests are anticipated to travel to the Estonian capital later this month,
