Neon said on Thursday it will release Michael Angelo Covino’s Cannes Premiere comedy Splitsville in the US on August 22.
Covino’s follow-up to his 2019 Cannes Un Certain Regard bromance The Climb charts the fallout when a man seeks support from friends in an open marriage after his wife asks for a divorce, and wreaks havoc when he crosses a line.
Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, and Covino star in the comedy, and Neon is also handling international sales in Cannes. The cast includes Nicholas Braun from Succession.
Covino and Marvin co-wrote the screenplay. Producers are Emily Korteweg, Covino, Marvin, Johnson, Ro Donnelley and Samantha Racanelli, and Topic Studios’ Ryan Heller.
Neon and Topic Studios co-financed Splitsville, and the project was developed through Topic’s first-look deal with Covino, with whom they worked on The Climb.
Neon has three other films in Cannes: Julia Ducournau’s Alpha and Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value in Competition, and Raoul Peck’s Orwell: 2+2=5 in Cannes Premiere.
