Netflix is looking to build a franchise out of the Russo brothers’ Ryan Gosling action thriller The Gray Man, which the streamer said on Tuesday (July 26) had garnered 88.55m hours viewed since it debuted last Friday.

The company has greenlit a sequel to once again star Gosling as well as a spin-off film to the story about a CIA spy who goes on the run from his superiors. The film currently ranks number 1 in 93 countries on Netflix’s weekly charts.

The Gray Man co-writer Stephen McFeely (Avengers: Endgame, upcoming The Electric State) is writing the sequel, which the Russos and AGBO’s Mike Larocca will produce alongside Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum for Roth Kirschenbaum Films.

The property, based on the book series by Mark Greaney, is also spawning a spin-off, which is being written by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The logline remains under wraps.

The Russos directed Chris Hemsworth action thriller Extraction for Netflix and a sequel will debut next year.
