Iceland’s Stockfish Film Festival has hired a new team to run the fest, led by artistic director Hrönn Kristinsdóttir and managing director Carolina Salas.
Kristinsdottir is best known as the producer of Lamb; Salas has worked at festivals as the head of industry at Reykjavik International Film Festival and also is an independent producer who recently served on the crew of Netflix’s Heart of Stone.
Nikolaj Nikitin, formerly of the Berlinale and currently a curator for Tallinn Black Nights and head of studies for SOFA – School of Film Advancement, will serve as senior programme advisor.
The new board of the non-profit festival consists of experts from Iceland’s professional guilds: Kristín Andrea Þórðardóttir of the Association of Icelandic Film Directors, Arnar Þórisson of the Association of Icelandic Film Makers; Anton Máni Svansson of the Association of Icelandic Film Producers, Þórunn Lárusdóttir of FIL, Ragnar Bragason of the Association of Playwrights and Screenwriters and Tómas Tómasson of the Icelandic Cinematographers Society.
The festival was founded in 2015 by the professional societies of filmmaking in Iceland. The previous festival director was filmmaker Marzibil Snæfríðar Sæmundardóttir.
The 2023 festival will run March 23-April 2 at Iceland’s only arthouse cinema, Bio Paradis in downtown Reykjavik.
Industry activities planned include a works-in-progress presentation and a delegation and programme looking at the Slovakian film industry. A sidebar curated by Physical Cinema’s Helena Jónsdóttir will look at films and installations bordering on physical performance, visual arts, sound and cinema.
The festival will also introduce a new career achievement award this year, the honoree will be announced later.
About 20 international features will be shown, plus the Shortfish competition for 20 shorts and music videos.
