Newen Connect, the distribution arm of Newen Studios, has promoted Leona Connell, from EVP distribution to the newly-created role of chief commercial officer (CCO).

Based between London and Paris, Connell will focus on international and French markets across film and TV.

Connell joined Newen Connect in 2020 and leads the fiction and non-fiction TV sales team in France and internationally and supports the financing of Newen Connect projects. Connell also develops co-production partnerships and pre-sales.

As CCO, she will broaden her remit to oversee a team of 20 sales representative across cinema and TV output.

The creation of the CCO role follows the integration of the TF1 Studio International distribution team under the Newen Connect banner in 2022. Newen Connect said that it also underlines the company’s ambition to optimise the value of its film rights.

Newen Connect’s film slate includes Ride Above (Tempete), which has just launched in France, as well as Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen, starring Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrra, The John Galliano Project, a documentary by Kevin MacDonald, and Funny Birds by Hanna Ladoul and Marco La Via, starring Andrea Riseborough, Catherine Deneuve and Morgan Saylor.

Connell was director of global sales at Sky Vision for eight years, and then joined NBC Universal as SVP sales before moving to Newen Connect in 2020.

Rodolphe Buet, CEO of Newen Connect said: “This appointment brings together Newen Connect’s desire to accelerate synergies between the film and TV Group, harmonize its processes and create more value for our talented producers.”
