VFX specialists Ed Bruce and Nicholas Murphy, whose credits include One Battle After Another, have opened a Dublin-based VFX studio Enbarr, targeting international productions.
The studio will specialise in the full spectrum of visual effects and also plans to help elevate the Irish VFX sector by partnering with Screen Ireland to nurture rising digital artists.
Co-founder and executive creative director Bruce and co-founder and business director Murphy, both previously of Dublin-based SSVFX, won an Emmy award for their work on FX’s Shōgun, with Bruce also winning an Emmy for HBO’s The Penguin. Further credits include Paramount’s Gladiator II.
Enbarr – a name taken from Irish mythology – forms part of the Dream Machine FX Group, allowing the studio to leverage a global infrastructure of partner studios such as ILP (Sweden), FIN (Australia), Metropolis (Spain), Zero (Boston/Montreal), ARC Creative (LA/NY) and Mavericks (Toronto).
In October last year, the Irish government announced an uplift to the VFX tax relief, up to 40% from the standard Section 481 32%.
“It’s a really positive time to be in Dublin,” said Bruce, ”building a team of like-minded, creative people and looking forward to what we can create together.”
“Launching Enbarr is a proud moment for us and a great step forward for the Irish VFX sector,” added Murphy. “Being part of the Dream Machine FX Group gives us an incredible foundation of technology and expertise to build a bright, sustainable future for the industry in Ireland. It’s an exciting new chapter.”
