‘One Battle After Another’

One Battle After Another has won its third best feature award in less than a week, taking top honours and five awards in total as National Board Of Review (NBR) announced its 2025 winners on Wednesday.

Paul Thomas Anderson was named best director for the Warner Bros adventure epic that previously earned top honours from the Gothams and New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC). The film’s star Leonardo DiCaprio was named best actor, and there was additional recognition for supporting actor Benicio Del Toro and breakthrough performer Chase Infiniti.

“Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the shining lights of contemporary cinema,” NBR president Annie Schulhof said. “He has crafted a bold, funny, and thrilling movie that is somehow one of the most significant films about the world we live in and also a playful, tender story of a father and daughter connecting through some of the wildest events you can imagine. The NBR is honored to celebrate this absolutely remarkable film.”

Rose Byrne continued to build awards season momentum by adding to her NYFCC win with the best actress award for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Inga Ibsdotter was named best supporting actress for Sentimental Value, and Eva Victor earned the directing debut award for her Sundance premiere Sorry, Baby.

Jafar Panahi has been on a roll in the past week with multiple Gothams and NYFCC wins and landed another international film award for It Was Just An Accident. Arco was named best animation, Cover-Up won best documentary. In the screenplay categories, Ryan Coogler prevailed in original for Sinners, and Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar won adapted for Train Dreams.

The NBR gala will take place on January 13, 2026, in New York City.
