Barunson E&A, the South Korean studio known for producing Parasite, has landed international sales rights to Inherit, an upcoming horror feature produced by Thai powerhouse GDH 559.

The company will handle sales across key territories including North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa.

The project builds on Barunson E&A’s existing relationship with GDH and marks the company’s first collaboration with acclaimed Thai filmmaker Banjong Pisanthanakun, best known for Shutter, blockbuster comedy-horror Pee Mak and The MediumInherit marks Pisanthanakun’s return to directing after four years.

The film centres on a wealthy family whose seemingly perfect façade begins to unravel when an ancient centipede spirit infiltrates their bloodline. Based on the seminal Thai horror novel Tayat Asun — first published in 1991 and kept in print for decades through multiple reprints and television adaptations — Inherit is the property’s first feature-film adaptation.

Leading the cast is Davika Hoorne, who appeared in A Useful Ghost, winner of last year’s Cannes Critics’ Week Grand Prize, and distributed in Thailand by GDH. Screen first revealed details of the project during last year’s Cannes market.

GDH 559 is widely regarded as Thailand’s most successful film studio, with a track record of commercially successful and critically acclaimed titles. Its 2024 release How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies grossed $73.8m worldwide. Its 2025 drama Human Resource landed a premiere at Venice.

For Barunson E&A, the move further strengthens its expansion beyond Korea’s borders and into Southeast Asia. In Indonesia, it has maintained an exclusive partnership with the production company of director Joko Anwar, whose comedy-horror Ghost In The Cell premiered at the Berlinale in February and on which Barunson E&A serves as co-producer and international sales agent.

Yoonhee Choi, CEO of Barunson E&A, said: “What immediately drew us to the project was its striking premise built around a cursed bloodline and a well-established piece of IP — a chilling and intriguing story. Beneath its genre framework, the film explores themes of family, guilt, and hypocrisy, giving it both emotional weight and strong international appeal. Banjong Pisanthanakun is a filmmaker with a singular voice, and we see this as the beginning of a broader creative relationship.”

The announcement follows Barunson E&A’s recent agreement with fellow Korean banner Studio N to jointly develop and produce projects based on webtoon and web novel IP for global audiences. The studio added that its collaboration with GDH is also expected to evolve in that direction, with both sides in ongoing discussions on future co-development and co-production projects.
