Projects come from US directors and producers including Karin Chien, John Maringouin and Tim Kirkman.

Wroclaw, Poland will host the first European industry event focused entirely on US independent films, Gotham in Progress.

The initiative is a showcase for US indies that are in the final stages of production. In its first year, Gotham In Progress has selected 11 projects selected from 39 applications. Seven of those will be screened for attending industry executives and the remaining four will be presented with 30 minutes of footage.

The projects selected include a number of notable participants, including Sundance Labs attendee Patricia Benoit, Circumstance producer Karin Chien, Big River Man director John Maringouin, Loggerheads director Tim Kirkman (pictured)and James Clauer who showed his short The Aluminum Fowl in Cannes Directors Fortnight.

Gotham in Progress attendees will include 30 European distributors, sales agents, producers and fest programmers; companies already confirming their attendance include HanWay, Urban Distribution International, LevelK, Artificial Eye, The Works, Soda Pictures, Imagine Film, and Reel Suspects.

A jury of industry experts will chose one film to win a $60,000 post-production package consisting of a digital master (DCP) and subtitling and post services, provided XDC and Studio L’Equipe. Also, sound and graphics for opening and closing credits will be donated by Mactari France and Poland’s Alvernia Studios.

Gotham in Progress is an initiative of New York and Paris-based Black Rabbit Films and New Horizons Association (which runs the New Horizons International Film Festival and the American Film Festival). Screen International is a partner in Gotham In Progress.

Gotham In Progress runs alongside Wroclaw’s second American Film Festival (Nov 15-20).
