EXCLUSIVEGomorrah writer Roberto Saviano is set to co-direct animated biopic I’m Still Alive adapted from his autobiographical graphic novel that Charades has boarded for global sales in partnership with Anonymous Content.

He will direct the film alongside Ivan Cappiello, with artistic direction by Igort on a script penned by Saviano with Stefano Piedimonte.

The film is about a 26 year-old sentenced to death by the Napolitan mafia and living life under heavy police protection. It is based on Saviano’s real- life experience following the success of his first novel Gomorrah, a 2006 investigative novel about the criminal organisation that has been translated into over 50 languages and sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

I’m Still Alive is produced by Italy’s MAD Entertainment and Lucky Red with Belgium’s GapBusters and Israel’s Sipur. The film is in production and set to start shooting at the beginning of 2026 after winning the Eurimages Development Coproduction Award at France’s Cartoon Movie.

Matteo Garrone’s film adaptation, co-written by Saviano, went on to win the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
