Veteran editor Nick Moore will direct the South African comedy Missionary Position which producers Kevin Connor and Nichola Ellis have been introducing to buyers at AFM.

W. David McBrayer (Beat The Drum) wrote the screenplay about a young couple posing as missionaries to escape the chaos of Western economic society who face the harsh reality of surviving in rural Africa.

The project is out to casting and the producers are preparing an early 2023 start of production. McBrayer will also serve as executive producer.

“It is a fun poignant entertaining script while making a profound global statement as it mushrooms into serious environmental political issues and the conservation of wildlife facing South Africa today,” said Moore, whose editing credits include The Full Monty, Notting Hill, Nanny McPhee and recent TIFF world premiere What’s Love Got To Do With It?

Moore made his directing debut on Universal’s Wild Child starring Emma Roberts and the late Natasha Richardson for Working Title and has also directed Horrid Henry: The Movie and this year’s comedy The Confirmation Of S.T. Joseph’s School. He is currently in pre-production to direct This Time Next Year.

Connor started out his career at Pinewood Studios and edited Oh What A Lovely War and Young Winston and has produced Warlords Of Atlantis and Arabian Adventure. Ellis (Destination F) from The Lighthouse Company worked with McBrayer on Beat The Drum and started out at Columbia Pictures in London working on campaigns for the likes of Gandhi, The Dresser, Tootsie, Ghostbusters and The Karate Kid.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have such extraordinary talent like Kevin and Nick that have the finesse required to pull off such a compelling and complex story and make it fun and digestible,” said Ellis.\
