EXCLUSIVE: Rome-based sales company True Colours has boarded psychological drama A Brief Affair (Breve Storia d’Amore), the directorial debut of leading Italian screenwriter Ludovica Rampoldi.
Rampoldi is known for her work on films such as Marco Bellochio’s The Traitor and Gabriele Salvatores’s The Invisible Boy, as well as TV series including Bellochio’s Exterior Night, Amazon’s The Bad Guy, and Sky’s Gomorrah – The Series and the 1992/1993/1994 trilogy.
The story follows Lea, who meets Rocco in a bar and becomes his lover. Their clandestine affair, confined to a hotel room, takes a sinister turn when Lea begins to infiltrate Rocco’s life beyond their secret encounters.
A Brief Affair stars Pilar Fogliati, Adriano Giannini, Andrea Carpenzano, and Valeria Golino who plays the lead in Mario Martone’s Cannes competition title Fuori.
The film is currently in post-production. True Colours is launching pre-sales at Cannes and showing buyers a promo.
“For years, I’ve written for other directors, always finding deep creative fulfillment” said Rampoldi. “But this story — about twisted relationships, betrayal, purity, and obsession — I felt the need to direct myself. I wanted to blend thriller and irony, drama and romantic comedy, working with an extraordinary and generous cast and a truly remarkable crew.”
A Brief Affair is produced by Indigo Film and HT Film in collaboration with Rai Cinema. The seven-week shoot took place in Rome and Naples. The film is written and directed by Rampoldi, with cinematography by Gogò Bianchi, editing by Francesca Calvelli, production design by Massimiliano Nocente, costume design by Stefano Ciammitti, music by Fabio Massimo Capogrosso and sound by Gianluca Scarlata.
