Warner Bros has scheduled the releases of The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum to be directed by and star Andy Serkis, M. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural romantic thriller Remain with Jake Gyllenhaal, and a new Evil Dead film.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum (working title) will open for Warner Bros and New Line on December 17, 2027 and is conceived as the first of two films.

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens from The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies are reuniting to produce the two films set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth, alongside Zane Weiner.

Walsh and Boyens are writing the screenplay with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. Ken Kamins, Serkis and The Imaginarium’s Jonathan Cavendish ser executive producers.

Shyamalan’s Remain will open globally on October 23, 2026, and will also star Phoebe Dynevor and Ashley Walters.

The feature is based on an original story co-created by Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks, who are separately writing the screenplay and novel, respectively, based on the same original love story. Spark’s novel of the same name will be published on October 7 this year.

Producers are Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures, alongside Marc Bienstock and Sparks’ longtime producing partner Theresa Park. Sparks is executive producer. Shyamalan’s Blinding Edge Pictures will produce Remain.

Warner Bros and New Line will release the next instalment in the Evil Dead franchise in North America on July 24, 2026. New Line and Sony Pictures will co-finance the feature after they collaborated on Evil Dead Rise.

Souheila Yacoub is set to star, and Sébastien Vaniček, who co-wrote the screenplay with Florent Bernard, will direct.

Longtime franchise producer Rob Tapert and series creator Sam Raimi will produce. Romel Adam, Jose Canas, and Lee Cronin will serve as executive producers alongside original star “Ash” Bruce Campbell.

Sony will distribute the film internationally, with Canal+ distributing in the UK and Metropolitan releasing in France.
