EXCLUSIVE: XYZ Films has reported a strong response from Cannes buyers to The Master Cleanse, the fantasy horror that launched on the Croisette and will star Johnny Galecki, Chloë Sevigny and Anjelica Huston.

Production is set to kick off in Vancouver on the Bron Studios / Gilbert Films / Alcide Bava Pictures project, in association with MastersFX, XYZ Films and Creative Wealth Media Finance.

Deals have closed in Japan (Kadokawa), Italy (Movies Inspired), Taiwan (MovieCloud), Indonesia (Queen), India (Pictureworks) and the Middle East (Falcon).

As Screendaily reported exclusively in Cannes, The Master Cleanse marks the feature debut of writer-director Bobby Miller.

Galecki, famous for his role in The Big Bang Theory is one of the producers on the story about a heartbroken man who attends a spiritual retreat, only to discover that the course releases more than everyday toxins and traumatic experiences.

The producer roster includes Jordan Horowitz for Gilbert Films, Aaron L Gilbert for Bron Studios and Galecki through his Alcide Bava Pictures. Executive producers are Gary Gilbert, Todd Masters, Margot Hand and John Raymonds.

Miller, who is represented by WME, has made several short films, including Sundance, SXSW and Cannes 2010 selection Tub.

XYZ Films produced and is handling world sales on Gareth Evans’ recently released The Raid 2 and the sales slate includes: Kevin Smith’s horror-thriller Tusk, which is in post and A24 will distribute later this year; Smith’s horror-comedy Anti-Claus; Sundance 2014 entry Life After Beth; andMaori action title The Dead Lands.

The company also serves as executive producer on Operation Avalanche from Matt Johnson, which Lionsgate has acquired for North America.
