Screen International is profiling all the winners of the fourth Global Production Awards, which were held tonight (May 18) at the Mademoiselle Gray Barriere in Cannes.

Studio of the Year
Vancouver Film Studios (Canada)
To secure this year’s prize for studio of the year, a complex had to offer adaptability and outstanding service to productions. The award would go to a facility that demonstrated delivery to the highest level for productions, innovation and at the same time delivered for the local community where it is situated.
The judges looked for evidence of a studio’s professionalism, attraction to customers, creativity, customer service, sustainability and community focus.
Vancouver Film Studios (VFS) was the first soundstage facility in the world to achieve B Corporation certification and the first carbon-neutral film studio in Canada. Judges noted that VFS plays an active role in the City of Vancouver’s Still Creek enhancement project, supporting the restoration of one of the city’s last visible urban streams. That work has contributed to the return of salmon to creek after roughly 80 years, a tangible environmental success story in an industrial area. “The salmon are back!” exclaimed one judge.
VFS also maintains a community garden and a pollinator-friendly area, complete with beehives. “An incredibly strong submission in terms of environment, sustainability and community benefits,” noted another judge.
