Sustainable Production Award — Film

Winner: Jurassic World: Rebirth (NBCUniversal, US)

Awarded to an individual film production that showcases best practice in sustainable green filming, the category was open to producers, studios, production companies or teams. The winning entry provided demonstrable evidence of how the production delivered a plan on sustainability with measurable contribution to carbon reduction and/or offsetting and benefits to the environment and location/community.

Described by one judge as a “solid tentpole sustainability submission with clear emissions avoidance, vehicle strategy, waste reduction, reusable systems and visible environmental community work”, NBCUniversal’s Jurassic World: Rebirth won out.

“NBCUniversal went an extra mile in its sustainability initiatives, ensuring they are able to give back to the community in various forms including its crew’s volunteer work for the environment,” noted one judge. “The production also had a substantial contribution in the reduction of carbon emission and waste management during the production.”

Significant emissions avoidance paired with exceptional community impact, including retrieval of fishing net across 18 reefs and major beach clean-ups were noted by the judges. “Strong waste elimination and renewable energy use across multiple countries highlight large‑scale co-ordinated sustainability,” noted one judge.
