EXCLUSIVE: Alpha Violet has acquired worldwide sales excluding Spain to Mexican auteur Fernando Eimbcke’s Berlin Competition selection Flies (Moscas).

The film centres on Olga, who lives alone in a vast apartment block and sees her carefully-controlled existence shift when she takes on a tenant out of necessity and forms a close bond with the man’s nine-year-old son.

Teresa Sánchez from Totem stars alongside first-time actors Bastian Escobar and Hugo Ramírez, and Enrique Arreola from Eimbcke’s 2004 Ariel Award winner Duck Season.

Eimbcke co-wrote the script with frequent collaborator Vanesa Garnica, and produced with Eréndira Núñez Larios for Teorema and Michel Franco through Kinotitlán.

A Contracorriente will distribute in Spain following an award for work-in-progress feature at San Sebastián Film Festival.

“With its subtle direction and spot-on performances, the film manages to rekindle childhood emotions we thought were lost, offering an experience that is both intimate and deeply universal.” Alpha Violet’s Virginie Devesa said. Núñez Larios added, “Alpha Violet brings intention to every film they represent. Working together, we feel the film is on a strong path toward Berlin.”

Flies is a Teorema and Kinotitlán production, co-produced by K&S Films and Nephilim Producciones.
