‘Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays’

EXCLUSIVE: LevelK has acquired international sales rights to Frederike Migom’s Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays, which will have its world premiere in Generation Kplus at Berlin Film Festival next month.

Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays takes place on a hot summer day, as 13-year-old Bianca, who feels unseen by her parents, has an unexpected encounter with her favourite actress.

Adapted by Migom from Bart Moeyaert’s novel of the same name, the film is produced by Ivy Vanhaecke for Belgium’s De Mensen, in co-production with Cala Film Central, Cala Film West and Juliet at Pupkin, and broadcasters VRT Ketnet, KiKA – Der Kinderkanal von ARD und ZDF and Proximus.

Backers include the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), the Netherlands Film Fund, Mitteldeutsche Medienforderung, Hessen Film & Medien and Thuringer Staatskanzlei.

Paradiso Filmed Entertainment will distribute the film in Benelux.

Lisa Vanhemelrijck, Laurence Roothoft and Sachli Ghloamalizad lead the cast.

Migom’s debut feature Binti – also sold by LevelK - premiered at Sundance in 2020; while she has also co-directed four episodes of TV series Alter Ego, and is finishing documentary series May I be (me).

“Frederike captures the world of 13‑year‑old Bianca with remarkable clarity and insight, allowing audiences of any age to truly feel and understand her,” said LevelK CEO Tine Klint.

Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays explores the overwhelming noise that fills your mind when you feel unheard and the way imagination can become a lifeline,” said Migom. “Bianca’s world - full of humour, chaos, and big emotions - is the beating heart of this film, lovingly brought to life by an extraordinary cast and crew.”
