Bleecker Street has acquired US rights to Joe Lynch’s upcoming horror-comedy and recent AFM sales title Buzzkill starring Billy Magnussen and Lulu Wilson.

Production is scheduled to commence in Texas in early 2026 on the monster movie set in a Texas town terrorised by a monster that can only be seen when the beholder is drunk.

As the townspeople prepare for the annual brewery festival, a recently widowed sheriff, who is struggling with drinking, launches an investigation when townspeople get murdered.

Lynch will direct from a screenplay by Colin J McLaughlin. The Veterans and Anonymous Content are producing, with Dane and Cole Eckerle for Bad Grey, Jonathan Schwartz and Nick Shumaker for Anonymous Content, and Magnussen for HappyBad Bungalow serving as individual producers.

David Levine is an executive producer alongside Bleecker Street’s Kent Sanderson, Tyler DiNapoli, and Miranda King.

Bleecker Street plans a nationwide theatrical release in 2027 after King and Avy Eschenasy brokered the deal with Anonymous Content’s Nick Shumaker and UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of filmmakers. The Veterans represents international sales rights.

“Bleecker’s mandate is, above all else, to bring genres of all kinds to theatre-goers, and Buzzkill aims to make the theatre into the ultimate, thrilling and blood-soaked party,” said Bleecker Street CEO Sanderson. “Joe brings such a distinct voice to his work, and we’re excited to be partnering with him and the whole cast.”

Bleecker recently released Max Walker-Silverman’s Sundance favorite Rebuilding starring Josh O’Connor, Lily Latorre, and Amy Madigan, as well as period drama spoof Fackham Hall starring Damian Lewis, Thomasin McKenzie, and Katherine Waterston.

The 2026 slate includes Guy Nattiv’s Harmonia starring Bella Ramsey, Odessa Young, Carrie Coon, and Lily James; The Third Parent with Rob Lowe, Crispin Glover and Roselyn Sanchez; Alex Gibney’s Musk; and Adam Shankman’s Stop! That! Train! starring RuPaul.
