Six films have been added to the shortlist for this year’s European Film Awards, including titles first seen at Cannes, Venice and Toronto.

The European Film Academy board has selected the titles that include Charlotte Wells’ UK drama Aftersun, Edward Berger’s German war epic All Quiet On The Western Front, Alice Diop’s French feature Saint Omer, Joanna Hogg’s UK sequel The Souvenir: Part II, and Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel’s Austrian drama Vera. Mark Cousins’ Italian documentary The March On Rome has been added to the documentary selection.

These join the 30 features and 13 documentary films that were previously named as the European Film Academy’s film selection for 2022.

Nearly all of the six additional titles have played major festivals in the past month with the exception of The Souvenir: Part II, which premiered in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes in 2021. All Quiet On The Western Front and Saint Omer have also been submitted for the international feature Oscar by Germany and France respectively.

The nominations will be revealed on November 8 and the European Film Awards will be presented on December 10 in Reykjavík, Iceland.
