EXCLUSIVE: Italian sales outfit True Colours has sold Farnoosh Samadi’s Toronto selection Between Dreams And Hope to US distributor Indiecan.
Iranian director Samadi’s Between Dreams And Hope premiered in Toronto’s Platform section, and marks her second feature film after 2020’s180 Degree Rule, which also premiered at Toronto.
The drama is about a trans man and his partner travelling to a remote Iranian village to face his estranged father and obtain documents that would permit them to live authentically, exploring themes of love, personal transformation and rebuilding after a toxic relationship in Iran’s repressive regime.
True Colours head of sales Francesca Tiberi said: “We are proud to represent this feature film, which enlightens a topic that is more urgent and relevant than ever as the audience becomes increasingly more aware and sensitive to LGBTQIA+ representation.”
True Colours’ film slate also includes Suzanna Nichiarelli’s Happy Days (Giorni Felici), an adaptation of a Zuzu graphic novel starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Carlota Gamba; Stefano Grasso’s feature debut Golden Boy starring Valeria Bruni Tedeschi; and Rome Film Festival world premiere Ludovica Rampoldi’s Brief Affair
Also on True Colours’ film slate is Francesco Costabile’s Familia, Italy’s candidate for the Academy Awards’ best international feature category.
