EXCLUSIVE: Screen can reveal the first trailer for Canadian filmmaker Genevieve Dulude-de Celles’ second narrative feature Nina Roza ahead of its world premiere in Berlin Competition on February 16.
The drama follows Mihail, a Bulgarian immigrant art dealer in Quebec, who must travel back to a rural region in his native country to find out if the paintings of a so-called child prodigy are genuine or a hoax.
Meeting the youngster, Nina, reminds Mihail of his own daughter Roza, whom he took with him to Canada 30 years prior, following the death of his wife. Over the course of the trip, the art specialist attempts to make peace with his past as he unravels the mystery of the young artist.
Dulude-De Celles won the Crystal Bear for best film in the Berlinale Generation Kplus strand in 2019, for her debut feature A Colony. Nina Roza won two awards for post-production and marketing materials at last year’s Locarno Pro Awards industry platform.
Montreal-based Colonelle Films produced Nina Roza. Co-producers are Italy’s Umi Films, Bulgaria’s Ginger Light Films and Premier Studio, and Belgium-based Echo Bravo. Brussels-based Best Friend Forever handles international sales.
