Screen can exclusively premiere the first English-subtitled trailer for Yuli, which has its world premiere this month in Competition at San Sebastian Film Festival (September 21-29).

Directed by Spanish actor and filmmaker Icíar Bollaín, Yuli tells the story of Cuban ballet superstar Carlos Acosta.

The Spain-Cuba-Germany-UK co-production is written by Paul Laverty (I, Daniel Blake) and was produced by BBC Films, Potboiler Productions, Morena Films and Match Factory Productions.

The Match Factory handles world sales on the title.

The film follows Acosta - nicknamed Yuli by his father - from growing up on the streets of his native Cuba, through his time at the country’s National Dance School, to performing at London’s prestigious Royal Ballet.

The lead role is played by Edilson Manuel Olbera Núñez as a boy and Keyvin Martínez as a young man, with Acosta also appearing in the film as himself.
