‘The Tale Of Daye’s Family’

Dubai-based Front Row Filmed Entertainment has secured all Middle East and North Africa rights to Egyptian drama The Tale of Daye’s Family in a deal with Saudi Arabia’s Big Time Fund.

The film, directed by Karim El-Shenawy, received its world premiere as the opening night film of Red Sea International Film Festival last December and went on to screen in the Generation section of the Berlinale.

The story, written by Haitham Dabbour, follows 11-year-old albino Nubian boy Daye who dreams of becoming a singer like his idol Mohamed Mounir. Accompanied by his mother, sister, and a devoted music teacher, Daye journeys from his home in southern Egypt to Cairo, confronting bullying and prejudice, while finding the courage it takes to be seen and heard.

Front Row released the film theatrically across the Gulf on September 18 and it is set to become available on SVOD platforms soon. The deal excludes Egypt.

The distributor and producer said its collaboration with Big Time Fund reflected a shared commitment to “bring bold, high-impact Arab and international cinema to audiences throughout the Middle East and North Africa”.

Big Time Fund operates as part of an initiative supported by Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, investing in entertainment projects in a bid to strengthen the Kingdom’s creative economy and boost Arab storytelling.
