EXCLUSIVE: Sho Miyake’s Two Seasons, Two Strangers, playing in Busan’s inaugural Competition section, has landed fresh distribution deals around the world through sales agent Bitters End.
The Japanese drama, which won the Golden Leopard at Locarno in August, has been acquired for the US (Several Futures), France (Art House Films), South Korea (Atnine Film), China (Unknown Pleasures Pictures), Taiwan (Sky Digi Entertainment), Hong Kong (Edko Films), Israel (Lev Cinemas), Greece (Weird Waves), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes) and Indonesia (PT Falcon).
Based on a manga by surrealist artist Yoshiharu Tsuge, the film stars Korean actress Shim Eun-kyung as a writer who searches for creative and romantic fulfilment in Japan. The cast also includea Japanese actor Shinichi Tsutsumi and Yuumi Kawai, who won the Japanese Academy’s best actress prize this year for A Girl Named Ann. A release for Two Seasons, Two Strangers in Japan is planned for November 7 through Bitters End.

Miyake is the director of Small, Slow But Steady and All The Long Nights, which were selected for the Berlinale in 2022 and 2024 respectively. He was awarded the Kurosawa Akira Award at last year’s Tokyo International Film Festival.
