EXCLUSIVE: BFI Distribution has acquired UK-Ireland theatrical rights to Mark Jenkin’s Rose Of Nevada starring George MacKay and Callum Turner.

The distributor is scheduling a release for 2026. Protagonist Pictures handles sales.

Rose Of Nevada debuted in Horizons at Venice Film Festival in August, before a North American premiere as a Special Presentation at Toronto.

It will have its UK premiere in Official Competition at BFI London Film Festival next month, and has already sold out all three of its festival screenings.

The film sees a mysterious boat, the Rose of Nevada, reappear in the harbour of a Cornish fishing village. Two men join its crew hoping for a better future; but find themselves transported back in time, mistaken for the original crew.

The film is written and directed by Jenkin, and produced by Denzil Monk for Bosena. It was developed by Film4 and co-financed by the BFI and Film4. Executive producers are Ama Ampadu for the BFI and Farhana Bhula, Ollie Madden and Ben Coren for Film4.

The deal continues the relationship between Jenkin and BFI Distribution, which released the filmmaker’s Bait in 2019 and Enys Men in 2023.

“We’re eager to continue our relationship with Mark Jenkin, one of the most exciting film directors of our times, who we discovered by way of the brilliant Bait and were delighted to work with again on Enys Men,” said Laura Dos Santos, BFI head of acquisitions.

“For Rose of Nevada, Callum Turner and George MacKay unite superbly with Mark’s longtime Cornish cast and crew. Together they’ve made a strikingly unique film – a tale of time and community, deeply sensory, brimming with tenderness and humanity.”

“BFI Distribution have been there since the start with me,” said Jenkin. “From recognising the commercial potential of Bait, through the amazing work they did around the release of Enys Men, it now seems entirely fitting that we partner again on Rose of Nevada and complete this Cornish trilogy.”
