In the run-up to Sunday’s Sundance world premiere of Sebastian Silva’s Rotting In The Sun collaborators on the film have struck a multi-year development deal to produce a slate of Mexico-set film and television.

Mexico City and London-based The Lift and New York, Los Angeles and Mexico City-based Hidden Content said they will champion new and established Latin American voices and stories.

Hidden Content is a full-service development and production studio, whereas The Lift produces, finances and offers production services. Its entertainment unit has developed and produced long format projects such as millennial sicarios documentary Los Plebes, which earned the best director award for Eduardo Giralt and Emmanuel Massu at the 2021 Buenos Aires Film Festival, and Destilando Mexico in co-production with Sony Entertainment TV.

The Lift partner Gabriel Stavenhagen, who served as executive producer on Rotting In The Sun, said: “We look forward to working together to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers looking to push creative boundaries. With the industry reevaluating its business models, the value of IP is set to rapidly advance. We are excited about the opportunity to work with bold creative voices through our ability to finance projects and nurture them to find their audience.”

“In the new era of filmmaking, the audience for any story can be a global one,” added Hidden Content and co-founder Jacob Wasserman, a producer on the Sundance selection. “We’re excited to join forces with The Lift, which will help us expand our ability to keep creating films and television that are unique in style and tone, impactful and meaningful in their messaging, and geared to reach more people in the process.”

Rotting In The Sun screens in Premieres and is described as a dark comedy that takes aim at the business of filmmaking and culture. Range Media Partners handles world sales.
