Garden Studios

Sustainability Initiative

Winner: Re-Set Programme (Garden Studios, UK)

This award is for an outstanding single green initiative, demonstrable by results in practice from a film commission, office, production studio or company. Entries could be wider industry initiatives that did not necessarily relate to individual production.

When crowning Garden Studios’ Re-Set recycling programme as the winner, the judges commended “a clearly defined, results-driven initiative with direct environmental and community benefits.”

London-based Garden Studios was the second film studio in the world and the first in Europe to achieve B-Corp status for meeting high standards across various impact areas. Developed in response to the environmental impact of set materials and props waste, the studio’s forward-thinking Re-Set is a comprehensive effort to upcycle set materials and props while also partnering with local charities, schools and community organisations.

The judges were impressed that the programme has not only redefined how the studio manages set waste, but has created a blueprint for sustainable practices in the film industry. One of the studio’s recent clients, Mubi documentary Witches, achieved nearly 100% reuse of set materials and props.

“A clearly defined, results-driven initiative with direct environmental and community benefits, Garden Studios’ Re-Set stands out as a replicable and impactful model,” said one judge. Another praised the company’s focus on redirecting waste as well as its strategy to create a circular economy.
