‘Boy From Heaven’

The Stockholm International Film Festival will present 130 films from 50 countries, opening on November 9 with Sweden’s international Oscar submission, Boy From Heaven by Tarik Saleh. 

Political thriller Boy From Heaven premiered in competition at Cannes where it was awarded best screenplay.

Actor Fares Fares will receive the Stockholm Achievement Award on opening night. His credits include Easy Money, Safe House, Westworld and Chernobyl.

The Stockholm Visionary Award will go to Sam Mendes who will present the Nordic premiere of Empire Of Light.

Other notable selections include Luca Guadagnino’s Bones And All; Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King; Oliver Hermanus’ Living; Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees Of Inisherin and Park Chan-Wook’s Decision to Leave.

The festival’s focus country for 2022 is Ukraine. Six Ukrainian films will be screened: Rising Fury, Freedom on Fire, Mariupolis 2, The Kiev Trial, How is Katia?, Butterfly Vision and Klondike; plus works in progress presentations and talks.

More than one-third of the programme is devoted to debut features, including Georgia Oakley’s Blue Jean, Mikko Myllylahti’s The Woodcutter Story, Jim Archer’s Brian and Charles, and Natalia López’s Robe of Gems.

The festival runs until November 20.
