‘Zootopia 2’

Walt Disney Studios’ $6.58bn global box office haul for 2025 has made it the highest-grossing Hollywood studio for another year, leading Warner Bros with $4.4bn and Universal Pictures with $3.89bn. 

Disney also ended the year ahead of its rivals with an international take of $4.08bn and a US/Canada tally of $2.49bn (all figures estimated as of December 31). 

Disney’s global total was the biggest for any studio since the pre-pandemic year of 2019 and gave the company its ninth studio ranking win of the past ten years. 

Disney’s biggest performers of the year were Zootopia 2, with an estimated $1.48bn as of year’s end, Lilo & Stitch, with $1.04bn, and Avatar: Fire and Ash, with $833m. 

Among the studio’s 2026 releases are The Mandalorian and Grogu, Avengers: Doomsday and Toy Story 5

Warner Bros’ $4.4bn gave it a 13% market share, said the company, and was up 33% on the studio’s 2024 global total. The total resulted from a take of $2.49bn internationally (up 18% from 2024) and $1.9bn domestically (up 60%). The company’s best performers (according to boxofficemojo.com) were A Minecraft Movie, which grossed $423.9m in 2025, Superman, with $354.2m, and Sinners, with $279.7m. 

Warner releases for 2026 include Wuthering Heights, Mortal Kombat II and Supergirl

Universal’s worldwide take comprised $2.1bn from international and $1.79bn from domestic. The studio’s biggest performers were Jurassic World Rebirth with $869.1m worldwide, How To Train Your Dragon with $636.4m, and Wicked: For Good with $510.8m. Six other Universal releases took more than $100m worldwide.

Sony Pictures ended the year with a worldwide total of $1.47bn, made up of $858m from international markets and $610.8m from North America. 

Successes included Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, which became the highest-grossing anime release of all time globally, and such local productions as Germany’s The Three Investigators – Carpathian Dog, Spain’s Padre no hay mas que uno 5 and Japan’s 366 Days

Paramount Pictures amassed $1.42bn globally, with $865.7m from international and $553.4m from domestic. Its top three performers were Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which took $599.2m worldwide, Smurfs, with $124.3m, and The Naked Gun, with $102.6m. 

Total worldwide box office figures for 2025 have not yet been released, but as of mid-December, Gower Street Analytics was forecasting a global tally of $33.5bn for the year. Representing an increase of nearly 12% on 2024’s $30bn, the total was made up of $17.2bn from international other than China, $9bn from domestic and $7.4bn from China. The UK-based film data company predicted a $35bn global take for 2026.
