Casting on the next James Bond film has officially begun, according to Amazon MGM Studios, with British casting director Nina Gold reportedly being recruited to help find the actor who will fill the lead role.

“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” said a statement released by Amazon MGM on X. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

At press time the studio had not responded to a request for comment on reports of Gold’s involvement. Gold could not be reached for comment.

London-based Gold has won 11 Casting Society (CSA) awards, six Primetime Emmys and a Bafta for her work, which has included casting on Conclave, several Star Wars films and TV blockbusters Game Of Thrones and The Crown. This year Gold was nominated for the first casting Oscar for her work on Hamnet

The past 13 Bond films were cast by UK veteran Debbie McWilliams, who retired last year.

According to Oddschecker.com, current bookmaker favourites to step into Daniel Craig’s shoes as the next 007 include Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James.

Coming five years after the franchise’s most recent entry No Time To Die, the new Bond film, currently known only as Bond 26, is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, written by Steven Knight and produced by David Heyman and Amy Pascal for Amazon MGM.

No details of the project have been revealed since the involvement of Villeneuve and Knight was announced last summer. At last month’s CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas, Amazon MGM Studios head of film Courtenay Valenti told exhibitors: “Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. That film is coming, and when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”

News that the casting process has started with Gold on board was first reported by Variety.
