Prime Video and Blumhouse Television are teaming up on psychological thriller House Of Spoils to star Oscar winner Ariana DeBose from West Side Story.
Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy will direct from their own screenplay about an ambitious chef who opens her first restaurant on a remote estate and battles self-doubt, kitchen chaos, a dubious investor, and the estate’s previous owner who threatens to sabotage her at every turn.
House Of Spoils reunites Cole, Krudy, Secret Engine, and Amazon Studios following Amazon Studios’ acquisition of worldwide rights to Cole and Krudy’s Tribeca and TIFF 2019 selection Blow The Man Down, produced by Secret Engine.
Production is scheduled to commence this autumn and Prime Video will debut the thriller on its worldwide platform. Producers are Jason Blum for Blumhouse; Alex Scharfman, Lucas Joaquin, and Drew Houpt for Secret Engine; and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Executive producers are Chris McCumber and Jeremy Gold for Blumhouse Television.
Prime Video and Blumhouse recently wrapped production on the slasher comedy-horror Totally Killer by Nahnathcka Khan. The companies will release Nikyatu Jusu’s Sundance grand jury prize-winning horror Nanny on December 16, and over the past two years partnered on the Welcome To The Blumhouse eight-film series.
Besides the Oscar, DeBose won Bafta, Critics Choice, and SAG awards for her performance as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of West Side Story, becoming the first openly queer Afro Latina to win an Academy Award.
She will next star in Sony Pictures’ Kraven The Hunter which is scheduled to open on January 13, 2023, and Matthew Vaughn’s action film Argylle for Apple. Also coming up is Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s space thriller I.S.S.
DeBose starred last year in Schmigadoon!, Lorne Michaels’ Apple TV+ musical comedy, for which she will return for a second season. Credits include Ryan Murphy’s Netflix adaptation of Broadway hit The Prom, and she is perhaps best known for her stage role as Disco Donna in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, and as an original cast member in Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton.
