Cuckoo

Production has wrapped in Germany on Neon horror film Cuckoo starring Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer alongside previously unannounced cast members Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick.

Tilman Singer directs from his screenplay and shot on 35mm. Plot details on the follow-up to his acclaimed debut and 2018 Berlinale Perspektive Deutsches Kino entry Luz remain under wraps.

Cast on the Neon production in association with Germany’s Fiction Park and Kao’s US-based Waypoint Entertainment includes Marton Csókás, Greta Fernández and Luz lead Jan Bluthardt.

Markus Halberschmidt, Josh Rosenbaum, Maria Tsigka, Ken Kao, Thor Bradwell and Ben Rimmer serve as producers and NEON’s Tom Quinn, Jeff Deutchman, Emily Thomas and Ryan Friscia are executive producers.

Neon serves as a financier and additional funding comes from the Film und Medien Stiftung NRW, HessenFilm and the German Federal Film Fund.

Schafer makes her acting debut in Cuckoo. She recently joined the cast of The Hunger Games prequel and Cannes pre-sales title The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes. Stevens starred in last season’s German Oscar submission I’m Your Man and can be seen in the Starz political thriller series Gaslit alongside Sean Penn and Julia Roberts. He was recently announced as the lead in Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong sequel.

Henwick will begin filming NEON’s Kitty Green film The Royal Hotel this summer alongside Julia Garner. She was most recently seen in Matrix: Resurrections and Blade Runner: Black Lotus and will next be seen in two Netflix films: the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man this summer and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in the autumn.

Csókás was last seen in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel and stars along Russell Crowe in Prizefighter: The Life Of Jem Belcher. Fernandez is shooting Carlos Lopez’s Netflix series Santo and is best known as the lead in 2019 San Sebastian Film Festival selection La Hija De Un Ladron.
