Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Theorem and Yasujiro Ozu’s A Hen In The Wind are among the 18 films selected for the Venice Classics strand of the 79th Venice Film Festival (August 31-September 10).
Pasolini’s Italian drama screened in competition at Venice in 1968 and received a special award from the International Catholic Film Office which was later revoked after the Vatican complained. It is restored by Cineteca di Bologna.
A Hen In The Wind is one of three Japanese films in selection. The other two are Profound Desires of the Gods by Shohei Imamura and Branded to Kill from Seijun Suzuki.
The line-up also features Jean Eustache’s last feature film My Little Ones. Eustache’s The Mother And The Whore opened Cannes Classics earlier this year and the director’s entire catalogue was recently acquired by Les Films du Losange.
Venice Classics returns to the Lido for the first time in two years after being held in Bologna in 2020 and Venice’s city centre in 2021 due to the pandemic.
