EXCLUSIVE: Conic has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Souleymane’s Story, winner of two prizes in Un Certain Regard at Cannes last year.
Conic will schedule a theatrical release for later in 2025, having acquired the film from Pyramide.
Set over 48 hours in Paris, Souleymane’s Story follows a Guinean asylum seeker racing through the streets delivering food, as he awaits the interview which will decide whether or not he will be granted residency.
It is the third film from French filmmaker Boris Lojkine, and is produced by Bruno Nahon of France’s Unité.
Souleymane’s Story won the Jury award and best actor for Abou Sangare on its debut in Un Certain Regard last year. It went on to play festivals including Karlovy Vary, Toronto and Busan; before eight nominations at France’s Cesar awards, and four wins: original screenplay, supporting actress for Nina Meurisse, male breakthrough for Sangare, and editing.
Sangare also won the European Film Award and Lumiere awards for best actor for his performance.
Conic has topped up its slate in recent weeks, with acquisitions of Justin Kurzel’s first non-fiction feature Ellis Park, about musician Warren Ellis; and UK feature Paul & Paulette Take a Bath.
