One Two Films, the Berlin-based production company behind Ali Abbasi’s Holy Spider, has promoted Fred Burle to partner in the company, alongside co-founders Sol Bondy and Christoph Lange.
Brazilian producer Burle will realise his own projects and continue to work alongside One Two managing director Bondy.
Burle joined One Two in January 2017, having graduated from the German Film and Television Academy (DFFB) the previous year.
He has previously worked as a film critic, in sales at The Match Factory, and as curator of the inaugural DFFB film festival.
One Two Films has signed on to produce Armand, the debut feature of Norwegian filmmaker Halfdan Ullman Tøndel. The film is also produced by Andrea Berentsen Ottmar’s Eye Eye Pictures; Ottmar recently produced Joachim Trier’s Oscar-nominated The Worst Person In The World and Kristoffer Borgli’s Sick Of Myself, in her previous role at Oslo Pictures. Burle will spearhead the title from One Two’s side.
He will also lead on Annemarie Jacir’s upcoming The Oblivion Theory, which is now moving to financing with partners Incognito Films from France and O Som E A Furia from Portugal.
One Two is also in development on Sarah Arnold’s Wild Encounters, in co-production with France’s 5a7 Films; and a project with German director Anne Zohra Berrached, in development with broadcaster WDR.
Later this year it will shoot Ido Fluk’s Köln 75 starring Mala Emde and John Magaro; while Michiel ten Horn’s Berlin-set romantic comedy Any Other Night, starring Gillian Jacobs and Marwan Kenzari, is also on its slate, in co-production with Mike MacMillan of Canada’s Lithium Studios and Erik Glijnis of the Netherlands’ Lemming Film.
The company also produced Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson’s Northern Comfort starring Lydia Leonard and Timothy Spall, which will debut at SXSW in March, with Charades and Rocket Science handling EFM sales.
“This next step just feels very organic,” said Burle of the move. “Sol and I have complementary personalities and we share similar cinematic visions, which is beautiful. I’m excited for what’s to come and working on painting our portfolio with a few new colours.”
“It feels fantastic to share the weight on more shoulders,” said Bondy. “Fred’s knowledge and confidence have grown so much over the last years that this step was completely inevitable.”
Line producer Daniela Ramin and assistant Cinzia Kaufmann round out the One Two team.
