Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk from Cannes and Sundance entry When You Finish Saving The World will direct horror comedy Hell Of A Summer for 30WEST.
Wolfhard and Bryk will star in the contemporary film alongside Fred Hechinger from The White Lotus and Pam & Tommy. Wolfhard and Bryk co-wrote the screenplay and plot details remain under wraps.
Principal photography is scheduled to commence this month in Ontario, Canada. Hechinger, Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan and Parts and Labor’s Jay Van Hoy will serve as producers.
30WEST is fully financing Hell Of A Summer and serves as executive producer and jointly represents worldwide rights with CAA Media Finance.
Wolfhard is best known for his starring roles as Mike Wheeler in Netflix Original Series Stranger Things and Richie Tozier in New Line Cinema’s It and It: Chapter Two. He recently starred alongside Bryk in Ghostbusters: Afterlife for Columbia Pictures and upcoming A24 release When You Finish Saving The World.
In 2020 Wolfhard made his directorial debut with short film Night Shifts, which won the Fantasia International Film Festival’s Silver Audience Award for Best Canadian Short.
Hechinger will next be seen in Scott Cooper’s The Pale Blue Eye starring Christian Bale for Netflix, Butcher’s Crossing with Nicolas Cage, and J.C. Chandor’s Kraven The Hunter alongside Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose.
Hell Of A Summer joins a 30WEST slate which includes Cooper Raiff’s The Trashers starring David Harbour; Marc Webb’s thriller Day Drinker; and the upcoming reimagining of The Crow, which the company helped package with Rupert Sanders directing and Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs attached to star.
Most recently in Cannes, 30WEST premiered Imperative Entertainment’s eventual Palme d’Or winner Triangle Of Sadness which NEON acquired, as well as The Silent Twins with Focus Features. The company is in post on the documentary Wildcat, which Amazon Studios plans to release this autumn.
