
Black Bear has scheduled a limited October 30 US release for Sundance entry Wicker starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård before expanding nationwide a week later.
Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki round out the key cast on the story co-directed by Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer about an ostracised fisherwoman whose life changes when she commissions the local basketmaker to weave her a husband.
Wilson and Fischer adapted the screenplay from Ursula Wills’ short story The Wicker Husband. Tango and Topic Studios produced and Tim Headington, Lia Buman, Ryan Heller and Michael Bloom served as producers alongside South of The River’s Colman, Ed Sinclair, and Tom Carver, Yoki, Inc’s David Michôd and Brad Zimmerman, and Justin Lothrop and Brent Stiefel for Votiv who originated and financed development, as well as Andrea Cornwell and Oliver Kassman.
Executive producers include Ian Stratford, Jasmine Daghighian, Jennifer Westin, Neil Shah, Max Silva, and Lina Stroud.
Black Bear also oversees international sales on Wicker and will release directly in the UK, and in Canada through its subsidiary Elevation Pictures. Company sources did not discuss the film’s potential awards merits at time of writing.
