Warner Bros has pushed back the release of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune from October 1 to October 22, and has moved Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho and Sopranos prequel The Many Saints Of Newark.

Dune will now avoid going one week prior to the US launch of MGM’s James Bond thriller No Time To Die on October 8.

It will open in 3D and IMAX and is set to receive its world premiere out of competition in Venice Film Festival on September 3, followed by a world exclusive Imax screening in TIFF, which runs September 9-18.

Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, and Zendaya star in the Frank Herbert adaptation about a young man’s quest to save his people as the universe fights over a precious spice with powerful qualities.

Mary Parent, Villeneuve, Cale Boyter, and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. are producing.

Cry Macho, Eastwood’s latest directorial outing since Richard Jewell in 2019, moves off Dune’s new October 22 slot and will open on September 17, towards the end of TIFF.

Eastwood, Eduardo Minett, and Dwight Yoakam star in the drama about a washed-up horse breeder who encounters challenges when he escorts his former boss’ young son home across rural Mexico in 1978

Eastwood, Albert S. Ruddy, Tim Moore, and Jessica Meier are producing, and Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash adapted the script from Nash’s novel. Based on the novel by N. Richard Nash

The Many Saints Of Newark moves September 24 to Dune’s previous slot on October 1. Sopranos creator David Chase wrote the story with Lawrence Konner and produces with Konner and Nicole Lambert.

Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Michael Gandolfini star in the drama, set during the 1967 Newark riots, when rival gangsters rose up to challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the city.

Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro, Ray Liotta, and Vera Farmiga round out the key cast.

All three films will open in cinemas and debut on HBO Max on the same day.
