Screen can exclusively reveal the first trailer for Benedetta Argentieri’s documentary The Matchmaker which plays out of competition at the 79th Venice Film Festival (August 31 - September 10).

The documentary explores Tooba Gondal, a London-raised Isis ‘matchmaker’ who allegedly recruited teenage girls to become the wives of jihadi fighters. Argentieri interviewed Gondal in Syria before she was deported to France at the end of 2019.

Producing The Matchmaker is Domenico Procacci and Laura Paolucci at Fandango, which also handles world sales.

Argentieri was last at Venice in 2016 with Our War, about three westerners who volunteered with the Kurdish army to fight Isis, which she co-directed with Bruno Chiaravalloti and Claudio Jampaglia.
