The first international trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here has been released (via French video site Daily Motion).

The film competed for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and shared the best screenplay award with Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing Of Sacred Deer. Its star Joaquin Phoenix also won best actor.

He plays a damaged war veteran who becomes a freelance rescuer of women trafficked into the sex trade. The story is based on the novella by Jonathan Ames. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood wrote the score.

You Were Never Really Here was produced by Why Not Productions, Film4, BFI, Amazon Studios, Sixteen Films and JW Films. Amazon Studios have US rights, with Studiocanal distributing in the UK.

Ramsay’s previous films include We Need To Talk About Kevin and Morvern Callar.
