Mubi has acquired North America and UK-Ireland distribution rights to Park Chan-wook’s crime mystery Decision To Leave, ahead of the film’s world premiere in Competition at Cannes next month.
The distributor has also acquired the film for Turkey and India. It will be released theatrically in the US and UK in autumn 2022, followed by a streaming release on the Mubi platform.
In Decision To Leave, after a man falls to his death from a mountain peak, the detective in charge of the investigation develops an interest in a key suspect – the dead man’s wife.
Park Hae-il and Tang Wei star as the detective and wife respectively.
The film is produced by Korea’s Moho Film and CJ ENM, with CJ ENM handling international sales.
Decision To Leave is a fourth Cannes appearance for Korean director Park, after 2003 Grand Prix winner Oldboy, Thirst in 2009, and The Handmaiden in 2016.
Mubi co-production One Fine Morning, directed by Mia Hansen-Love, will also have its world premiere in Cannes in Directors’ Fortnight.
