‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’, ‘Eternity’

Universal horror Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 and A24 romantic comedy Eternity lead the way for new releases in UK and Ireland cinemas this weekend.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 opens in 568 sites. The first feature, adapted from the popular video game, debuted on £3.2m from 598 sites back in 2023 and finished with an impressive £10.6m.

Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard return for the sequel set a year after the original, where the group must once again fight for survival. Mckenna Grace, Wayne Knight and Skeet Ulrich are among the new cast members. Emma Tammi directs.

Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller and Callum Turner star in Eternity which is A24 is opening.The Toronto premiere is set in an afterlife, where souls have one week to decide who they want to spend eternity with, leaving one woman torn between her husband and her first love.

In event cinema, André Rieu’s 2025 Christmas Concert: Merry Christmas opens in 661 venues for Piece Of Magic Entertainment. It is a wider opening than the Dutch conductor’s last Christmas release, Gold And Silver, which debuted in 642 venues with £1m. Further event releases include musical documentary The Doors: When You’re Strange in 121 cinemas and Monsta X: Connect X In Cinemas in 31, both via Trafalgar Releasing.

Lionsgate is releasing Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Affair in 444 locations. It is the first time the director’s two-part revenge epic is being released as a single theatrical viewing. Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 originally opened in 2003 and 2004, grossing $180m and $152m worldwide, respectively. Park Circus also has re-releases this weekend with How The Grinch Stole Christmas in 304 venues and Sunset Boulevard in 14; while Curzon is screening the 1934 French romance L’Atlante in 10 venues and Munro Film Services is rolling out the 2020 version of A Christmas Carol. 

Indian action thriller Dhurandhar opens in 137 sites for Moviegoers Entertainment.

‘It Was Just An Accident’

Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident opens in 58 cinemas for Mubi. The Palme d’Or winner follows a group of former Iranian political prisoners who face the question of whether to exact revenge on a man they believe may be their tormentor. It is France’s submission for best international feature at the Oscars and recently picked up best director, best screenplay and best international feature at the Gotham awards. 

Former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern is the subject of the Sundance-premiering documentary Prime Ministerlaunching in 29 sites via MetFilm.

Buff Studios is opening Magazine Dreams in 14 locations. Jonathan Majors stars in the Sundance 2023 award-winner as a bodybuilder with body dysmorphia who becomes consumed with becoming a champion.

Nigerian thriller Son Of The Soil opens in 13 venues for Sovereign Film Distribution.

Further releases include Laura Poitras’s documentary Cover-Up for Netflix; Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s UK drama Dreamers via We Are Parable; and Norwegian documentary Folktales via Dogwoof.
