EXCLUSIVE: Screen can reveal the exclusive first trailer for Marlene Edoyan’s A Fire There, ahead of its world premiere at Visions du Réel in Switzerland next month.

The film will play in the International Feature Film Competition at Visions du Réel, before its international premiere in the Canadian Spectrum Competition at Canada’s Hot Docs.

A Fire There is set in the remote southern Georgian village of Gandzani, near the border with Armenia. Set against a backdrop of social constraints, rigid gender roles and geopolitical uncertainty, it follows three young men navigating the tensions between inherited traditions and the desire to shape their own futures.

It is produced by Dominique Dussault and Edoyan for Canada’s Nemesis Films. Czech Republic-based Filmotor handles world sales, and will introduce the film during Visions du Réel.

A Fire There grew from a long personal relationship with this community,” said Edoyan. “The film asks what we carry forward from the past, and what must be allowed to burn away. Through these young men, I wanted to explore how the desire to dream, resist and love becomes its own quiet force.”

Visions du Réel 2026 runs from April 17-26; with Hot Docs from April 23 to March 3.
